Sanctuary House

Amy Harwood

Multi-Bed Registered Manager

Hi I'm Amy,

I really enjoy spending time with my family and having lots of fun and laughter, especially with my little boy who certainly keeps me active. In my spare time I spend lots of time socialising with friends and accessing many fun activities like going to the cinema, swimming pools and trampoline parks.

I have worked within the care sector for 18 years in variety of different roles and areas. I have vast amounts of experience supporting young people with ASD and EBD and I also have many years experience supporting adults with mental health both within a residential setting and out in the community.

Throughout my 18 years experience, my roles have developed along with my experience which I gained initially from being a support worker supporting very complex young people, I then developed into a senior support worker role. I have experience as a service manager working within an adults residential service for 6 adults with many complex needs. Following this role, I went onto to be a Quality service manager within the community, supporting adults with LD, PD and mental health.

I have acquired qualifications along way to assist me within my role and to develop my knowledge and understanding to ensure the care and support I provide promotes positive outcomes for the young people we support. I have an NVQ Level 3 in supporting children and young adults in a residential setting. I have also completed Level 2 in mental health awareness. In addition to this in January 2023 I completed my NCFE CACHE Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare.

I have completed many courses including DSL safeguarding lead, Safeguarding advanced level children's homes, positive behaviour support strategies, Global developmental delay, internet safety awareness, domestic violence awareness, first aid, food hygiene, CCE, CSE, CRE safer recruitment, GDPR. As a service we are dynamic, ensuring we remain positive and focused on our young people and their individual needs, this means that we offer person specific training for each individual ensuring we develop our knowledge and skills.

At Anchor house we have just achieved Good in all areas following our recent Ofsted inspection. This has been through team work and dedication, I am so proud of this accomplishments and the staff team at Anchor house and look forward to future accomplishments.

Sanctuary House is a warm and welcoming solo children’s home situated in Swinton, Rotherham.

It is designed to provide care and support for one young person at a time, with the full attention of two dedicated staff members who are always on hand to offer help, encouragement, and reassurance. The main purpose of Sanctuary House is to create a safe, nurturing space where the young person can feel part of the local community, build positive relationships, and enjoy every day social experiences.

The young person has their own private bedroom, which they can decorate and personalise, so it truly feels like their own. Staff also have their own bedrooms within the home, allowing them to be present and supportive whenever needed. The lounge is tastefully decorated with a double aspect design, creating a bright, relaxed, and homely environment where time can be spent together watching films, chatting, or simply unwinding.

To ensure safety and peace of mind, Sanctuary House is fitted with hard-wired security alarms on both the front and back doors. These are set each evening between 9pm–11pm and turned off again at 8am. If either door is accessed during the night, staff in the sleep room are alerted immediately so they can respond quickly and check that everything is okay.

Overall, Sanctuary House provides a nurturing, family-style environment where young people are encouraged to grow in confidence, develop new skills, and feel proud of their achievements, all while being cared for by a team of dedicated and supportive adults.
